Local art lovers attend performances in one of its concert halls – the recital hall. The Abby provides an unforgettable view while listening intently, on average about once per week during May & June when it’s not raining.
Other little Villages
You’ll discover a number of lovely little villages as you head east along the coast. Most of them have fantastic views and proximity to excellent beaches. One such place is Esentepe. It’s popular among expats who want to buy property in North Cyprus as it has its own sandy beachfront just 10 minutes drive away! There are schools nearby for your children or medical services if they need them, plus police stations too. This makes living here very convenient.
The village of Ozankoy is a traditional and peaceful place, with olive orchards lining the steep hillsides. From these trees you can get an amazing view across to Bellapais Abbey, one part medieval church that has been witness too many historic events in its time! Up higher still there’s Karmi, another expatriate shelter situated right under St. Hilarion Castle. It houses both public restaurants as well an art gallery which showcase local artwork from this beautiful region.
Famagusta
Famagusta is a fascinating mix of the ancient and new. The city has been walled for centuries, but it also features some luxurious developments that are worthy additions to any traveler’s bucket list!
Famagusta is a bustling town with deep ports that can accommodate large ships. The walled city at its heart houses a university and offers many shops, restaurants, pubs or cafés.
Bogaz and Iskele
Yeni Iskele is a popular destination for British expats and tourists alike. The village has annual festivals that are worth celebrating. For example, there are the Mehmetcik grape harvest event in August or July’s Galateia festival, which features music from around Cyprus’ region!
To get to the beautiful village of Bogaz, you have to travel about 4 miles northeast from Iskele. It’s a traditional fishing community with an entrance onto Karpaz Peninsula. A short drive or bus ride if someone travels here by land! The famous seafood restaurants are all within this small harbor, where they cook and serve up fresh fish literally straight out of the sea.
